Doing the right thing - Modern Space

We do not claim to be perfect but we are very serious about prioritizing the welfare of our planet and the people we work with, operating Modern Space with the utmost integrity, aligning our sustainability goals with yours, and continually improving.

Our engineering culture values measurement. We are evaluating whether ESG platforms such as EcoVadis, B-Corp or the Just Label provide us with transformational levels of disclosure, or whether our business needs more customized metrics to achieve equilibrium in our triple bottom line.

For example, we are also referring to such standards as the Global Reporting Initiative and tracking developments of the International Sustainability Standards Board, established as a result of COP26.

Like many others, we have concentrated on reducing our Environmental impact and are now increasing our focus on Social and Governance aspects.

One thing is for sure, we won’t be guilty of simply checking boxes. Our ESG values must run through every channel of our business, and our goals be driven by every colleague.

We select materials, finishes and processes that support your specific environmental objectives, whether that be recycled content, carbon reduction or full circularity.

We design to reduce material mass and combinations, maximizing disassembly to realize the full eco-potential of material selections.

Our design software already enables dynamic evaluation of the impact of design decisions but we are pushing further. We are developing a unique method for guiding sustainable design, while measuring and optimizing the environmental impact of our work.

By controlling design through manufacture inside our own facilities, we guarantee producing exactly to specification. No interpretation, no deviation, no compromises. Just full transparency and protection of sustainability from concept, through development, to manufactured product.

Our advanced manufacturing facilities are scrutinized to some of the highest environmental standards in the world.

On average we expect to be audited by an independent organization every couple of weeks. Continual investment in Industry 4.0 technologies provides interconnectivity to generate the data we need to exceed these strict regulations.

As early as 2003 we introduced water-based paints to China. Today all our manufacturing facilities use only water-based paints and adhesives.
Powder coating is closed loop and phosphate free.
Cleansing agents are bio-degradable and low VOC.
Environmental Impact Assessments carried out by independent government agencies.

Air emissions monitored by independent agencies.
Transitioning to green energy providers.
Wood and metal recycled.
Waste minimized, removed and recorded by certified agencies.

From sourcing raw materials to distributing finished items, the connectivity between our global locations ensures we organise each project to minimize environmental impact:

In-house logistics experts collaborate with specialist freight partners.
Deeply detailed engineering drawings allow manufacture to be replicated globally, regionally and locally, reducing delivery distances and environmental impact.
Packing arrangements optimized to reduce shipping volumes.

Packaging and crates made from recycled materials.
End-of-life recover, re-use, recycle programs.
Employee shuttle service reduces individual commutes.
Transition to electric vehicles and provision of employee electric scooters.
