Bhavik Sodha

Operations Manager (India)

I was the first employee for Modern Space India, also responsible for UAE and Gulf countries since 2017. My role includes vendor identification and development, local sourcing for MS global, India engineering team, logistics, project / site co-ordination and execution.

I have been part of Furniture industry for 15 years now, with 10 years in machine and technology for the furniture and fit out industry, so my customers used to be companies like Modern Space. In 2016 I came across a job post for a vacancy with Modern Space at Netherlands and, on contact, found that similar role is available for India as well. After a few meetings over several months I was finally on board.

A typical day starts with checking the morning emails and aligning the responses and information. Then follow up for tasks and assignments on hand, which can include: our India accounts and engineering team, Modern Space Netherlands as MS India is headed by MS NL, Modern Space Creative in London for design requirements and ongoing Projects, and MS Shanghai and Hong Kong for new developments, accounts and logistics.

Opportunities at Modern Space for me come in different varieties. I am a travel buff and have travelled in India and abroad for a few projects, meeting new people with different geographies and culture. A lot of exposure in the field of logistics, accounts, vendor development, sourcing and engineering which adds to a lot of exposure and contributes to me as a professional. I also have direct meetings with the brands which is a privileged experience and an important one too.

Success for me is a continuous process. I am trusted with different roles and responsibilities which is rewarding and exciting at the same time.

Modern Space has always been an organisation which has customer at the heart of all the activities hence we have the brands associated with it. Detail, quality and consistency are a default which are the major ingredients for an upward trajectory. Also, our global presence, ever upgrading infrastructure and the vision and openness of Modern Space as an organisation make me pleased to be part of the team.

Retail and hospitality as an industry is changing rapidly owing to shorter life cycle of a product and also ever-changing needs and tastes of the consumer. There is a bouquet of raw materials and finishes to experiment with. Mechanisation, automation, and industry 4.0 are the languages we are speaking.
