Production Manager

Role summary

The Production Manager will oversee all daily operations of the plant from production and manufacturing to ensuring policies and procedures are followed. They develop processes that will maximize stewardship, safety, quality and productivity.

Essential responsibilities

  • Plan, organize, direct and run optimum day-to-day operations to exceed our customers’ expectations
  • Increase production, assets capacity and flexibility while minimizing unnecessary costs and maintaining current quality standards
  • Be responsible for production output, product quality and on-time shipping
  • Allocate resources effectively and fully utilize assets to produce optimal results
  • Implement strategies in alignment with strategic initiatives and provide a clear sense of direction and focus
  • Monitor operations and trigger corrective actions
  • Share a trusting relationship with workgroup and recruit, manage and develop plant staff
  • Collect and analyze data to find places of waste or overtime
  • Commit to plant safety procedures
  • Develop systems and processes that track and optimize productivity and standards, metrics and performance targets to ensure effective return on assets
  • Address employees’ issues or grievances and administer collective bargaining agreements
  • Influence and learn from below
  • Stay up to date with latest production management best practices and concepts
  • This position operates every Monday through Friday, from 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Must be willing to work additional overtime. Earlier and later start times are available.
  • Lead and train, shop workers on site; on the job training in custom wood and metal fabrication skills.
  • Ensure safety conditions are always in place in the shop and ensure safety meeting requirements are performed as needed.

Preferred qualifications

  • Proven work experience as a Production Manager
  • Proven managerial experience
  • Adequate knowledge of business and management principles (budgeting, strategic planning, resource allocation and human resources)
  • Familiarity with industry standard equipment and technical expertise
  • Be knowledgeable of safety, quality, productivity, demand creation, inventory and stewardship processes
  • Computer literacy
  • Ability to create accountability and to lead by example
  • Strong team building, decision-making and people management skills
  • BS degree in Business Management or related field
  • Specialized Knowledge and /or Skill: Custom Millwork manufacturing to include metal and woodworking. Comprehension of blueprints and shop drawing. Skill at directing the efforts of many toward common goals. Computer literate, with working knowledge of all Microsoft programs.
  • Reasoning Ability: Possess the ability and discipline to source relevant facts quickly and make decisive decisions based on those measurable facts. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.  
  • Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, as well as procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to communicate effectively with individuals from a variety of educational, social, and ethnic backgrounds in a professional manner.  
  • Rapport capability: Posses the temperate and skills to work and manage others with respect and kindness in a time sensitive climate.      

Work Environment

  • This position requires frequent lifting, carrying and pushing/pulling of furniture
  • Must be self-motivated and able to work with minimal supervision
  • Must have the ability to use various power tools for assembly purposes
  • Good attendance and punctuality required
